Get to know this week’s RightFit Personal Training featured trainer, Matt Flynn. Matt has a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science along with a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) certification. Get an inside look at his experience, passions and guilty pleasures.
Why did you become a personal trainer?
I took a kinesiology class in community college and fell in love with how the human body moves. I was working out at the time myself and wanted to help other people achieve their goals physically. Started training some friends and after I got my certification and did a few internships it really kicked off and I started to see that I really enjoy going above and beyond to help people live as healthy as they can.
What are your favorite things about being a personal trainer?
I love when my client realizes their own successes. It’s great to point it out but when they come in or even when I interact with them online and they tell me how they were able to keep up with their kids or they feel like they have so much more energy. Maybe they say wow I looked in the mirror today and was really blown away by how I looked. That makes me feel really accomplished.
If you could train one celebrity, who would it be and why?
Jeremy Renner. He just seems like a really down to earth guy and I think he’s really badass as Hawkeye in the Avengers.
If you had one workout style to describe yourself, what would it be?
Minimalist. Dumbbells, Bands, Bodyweight.
In your mind, what is the single biggest benefit for someone to hire a personal trainer?
Overall health and lifestyle change. Take care of yourself and everything around you instantly changes because your body makes a huge impact on your business life, school life, social life, EVERYTHING!
What are your hobbies?
Huge Cubs fan. Love baseball. Love to read.
Any guilty pleasures?
Chocolate anything, ever since my family went to Switzerland last summer if there’s chocolate nearby forget it!
