Certified Personal Trainer Chicago Interview | Levi Kane

Levi Kane is a Certified Personal Trainer in Chicago, IL.

Get to know this week’s RightFit Personal Training featured trainer, Levi Kane. From National Champion Para-Triathlete to becoming the fastest running 5k amputee on the planet, Levi used his education from the University of Illinois at Chicago in the field of Kinesiology to help himself reach his athletic goals and now he’s using his education to help others.
Why did you become a personal trainer?
After understanding that my health is what saved my life from what should have been a fatal motorcycle accident (June of 2009), I wanted to do everything that I could to coach and educate others to hopefully one day save their lives as well. I broke, both femur bones, my leg was severed at the scene of the accident, a compound fracture of my right humerus left me without a brachial-is muscle. I suffered multiple facial and cranial fractures including a fractured left orbit and left temporal bone. I fractured T3, T4, and T5 of my vertebrae, I bruised my lungs and I lacerated my spleen. The fact that I was in and out of the hospital in just under 3 months still blows my mind to this day. After fully recovering, I went on to race Paratriathlons for Team USA winning Gold at Nationals, Silver at World’s, and Bronze at Continentals and along the way, I became the first and still the only single leg above knee amputee in the entire world to ever run a sub 20:00 5k, finishing in 19:54. So when I hear that people are struggling with fitness, pain, or injury, I feel that it’s almost my duty to show them that there is in fact hope, after all.

What are your favorite things about being a personal trainer?

My favorite thing about being a personal trainer is that I get to see people at their worst and help them to become their absolute best. Along the way, we develop lifelong friendships helping them grow not just physically, but mentally and professionally.

If you could train one celebrity, who would it be and why?

I would love to work with Arnold Schwarzenegger because of his focus, his dedication, the incredible stories that he would have about his past, we could both learn new things from each other, and let’s be honest… he’s not looking so hot these days!

If you had one workout style to describe yourself, what would it be?

In your mind, what is the single biggest benefit for someone to hire a personal trainer?

When everything gets screwed up during the week and you’ve lost all hope in exercising and hitting your fitness goals, you still have your trainer that you’re going to see. They bring you back to center, reset you for the week to come, keep you on track, and help you blow off steam. If someone cant afford a trainer, I would highly recommend just finding a workout partner/friend.

What are your hobbies?

I love networking, and building my business by means of helping others build theirs. In Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 6 rules to success, his 6th and final rule is about giving back. The day that I started networking and helping my clients professionally, outside of the gym, is the day that my business took off.

Any guilty pleasures?

I love gummies. Gummy worms, gummy bears, peach rings, tolli’s, harribos, you name it, I LOVE it!
