About James Wood

I stepped into the fitness industry ten years ago when I saw how important the health of another person actually was to me. I started my journey of helping others improve themselves as a fitness coach and then a personal trainer at Bally Total Fitness in Tucson, and I never looked back. I later found my niche in corrective exercise at a local gym and my business took off and took me with it out of my hometown to Scottsdale, AZ, where I trained at Life Time Athletic, eventually living part of my dream of teaching for National Academy of Sports Medicine as an educator for Life Time Academy. My move to the Midwest has allowed me to shine as a professional in all aspects.
Through the years, I have seen the evolution of the fitness industry and the pressure my clients have suffered to “decipher the code” of how they should live a healthy life. My understanding is that there is no one way, but the way that seems easiest is often not going to produce the longest lasting results. This has become my passion: to shed light on the paths of those who truly wish to make a difference in their lives.
I am a NASM certified CPT, with Specilizations in Corrective Exercise and Performance Enhancement (CES and PES) and TRX Sports Medicine (SMST). I’ve also pursued a heavy understanding of Hardstyle kettlebell training, kickboxing and Stretch Therapy

Typical Training Session

The warmup is a very important part of the weekly programming, so this will be the first half to 1/3 of the workout that will focus mostly on movement prep, core activation, balance (even out the bilateral strength imbalances), and either plyometric stability and power or explosive exercises, depending on the goal. This is the conditioning that unties the knots from improper range of motion and unwanted strength/power reductions that are getting in the way. Cardio programming can sometimes be implemented in this segment, but is most often given as homework depending on the client’s time availability.
The next portion is the resistance segment. This is where clients build on top of their conditioning to force their body to adapt above and beyond what it can already do. This is what really make the progressive changes in the body, and is well calculated based on the client’s current fitness level.

Hobbies
I was in a band in/after high school and love music deeply. Also, motorcycles have a place in my heart. Playing with Holmes the Dogg, our gym mascot, is one of my favorite things to do
