About Alex Guillien

I come from a different background than most. After playing collegiate basketball, I began training in olympic weightlifting. Soon, I became a Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for 4 years and amassed over 10,000 hours of hands on coaching. I’ve seen it all and it has allowed me the experience to work with all walks of life. Moving on to 1 on 1 personal training has allowed me to do what I love to do; connect. I love to learn about other people and help them achieve their goals by breaking down the invisible barriers and scripts running in their mind.

I am in massage school and practice reflexive performance reset (RPR). This technique allows the proper firing pattern so we stay out of pain, injury, and aches by resolving harmful compensation patterns. Teaching people how to breathe correctly immediately shifts function and performance, which is another part of RPR. You are a whole person and should be treated as such. This is my approach.

I combine a hard and soft approach. I will listen empathetically. I will hold you accountable. And we will be successful.
I aspire to continually help people towards their goals and transform their lives in the process, step by step.

Training Philosophy
Addressing proper movement and firing patterns to ensure we stay out of pain. No aches and pains means we can be consistent. Consistency breeds success and long term adherence to a healthy lifestyle. I fit the training to your needs, no matter the goal.

Training Professionally Since

Typical Training Session

A client can expect a thorough warm up addressing specific areas we will be addressing for the session. Certain activations of the body and then moving into the main movement of the day. Following up with supplemental exercises to help the main movement and finishing with either core work or conditioning is sometimes applicable. Every session ends with proper breathing to ensure you leave relaxed. The gym is stressful on your body. We want to leave relaxed so the food we eat digests properly. The fastest way to do this is through the breath. And it feels great too.

Client success story

I worked with a 64 year old woman who was 227lbs and nearly 50% body fat. She was hurt with a previous trainer and nervous about starting again. She spend thousands of dollars for a years worth of training and did not lose a pound. Needless to say, she had barriers we needed to break down. I outlined her nutrition, supplementation, and workouts (she did 2x a week with me) while encouraging her to walk daily and go to any classes she enjoyed. She was told previously to stop those classes. I wanted her to gain an appreciation of movement and encourage her to do what was fun.

She saw me and was intimidated by my stature and physique. We started where she was at and made stepwise progressions. By the time we were done, her work capacity improved tremendously. She regularly did a deadlift for 20 sets of 5 reps with a 70 pound kettlebell with 30 seconds rest between each set. People would tell her she was going to hurt herself. They said she was too old for it. But we progressed from a 20 pound weight with proper form (elevated off of the ground to fit her body type) and never went beyond her capabilities.

She ended up losing 27 lbs and nearly 10% body fat which is impressive considering age and time spent at that bodyweight.
She had more energy and was transformed mentally too.

One other example is a 28 year old male. He came to me wanting to get stronger and squat 315 pounds as a short term goal. He trusted the process as we started nailing down technique with all movements. Fast forward to today and he has done 335 x 10 reps on a squat, 365 lbs for 3 sets of 3 on a squat, went from never deadlifting to easily doing 5 sets of 3 reps with 315 lbs, benching over 225 pounds after having mental barriers at 185 pounds, military pressing 150 pounds for 5 sets of 3, and doing things he never thought he could do. His muscle mass has improved dramatically and people at the gym notice.

These two examples illustrate my range in helping people reach their goals. From senior citizens to young males I have proven my work.
