About Bob Jacobs

My interest in wellness and physical fitness began in 2007 when I found myself 50lbs overweight and horribly out of shape. I made a commitment to improve my eating habits and increase my activity level. After 18 months of focus on the goal of getting healthy and feeling better, I lost the 50lbs and found myself in the best shape of my life. In 2011, after a 20 year career in film/video post production I found myself in a position to make a change and pursue personal training as a career. Since then I have worked with a wide variety of clients ranging in age from 16-80 with fitness goals just as varied. I have worked with student athletes wanting to improve strength and stamina, clients focused on weight loss, clients recovering from illness/eating disorders, and aging clients focused on functional fitness to improve or maintain quality of life and avoid injury.

What I love about my work is the opportunity to help people achieve their goals. Sports and coaching have always been a part of my life having played hockey my entire life and soccer in high school and college. Through these experiences I’ve come to appreciate the impact an engaged and caring coach can have not only on one’s athletic accomplishments but also in having a positive mental attitude in pursuing them. Having great coaches inspired me to be a great a coach. Some of my proudest moments have been in supporting others to achieve their goals. I’ve coached hockey, little league, basketball and even helped out with football when needed.

I bring this same coaching mindset to my training appointments. Continuing to support others as they strive for personal betterment and helping people push beyond their perceived limitations is my motivation and what I love about my job.

Client success story

I consider my greatest client successes to be those that have resulted in an improvement to overall well being. For example, I have a client who is 80 years old, when he started with me he had never done weight lifting in his life. His primary concerns were weakness and balance issues. He experienced frequent stumbles and falls. We started super slow and 18 months into it he is stronger than ever and training for an 80 and over hockey tournament this fall in Canada. He no longer need a wrist support when golfing and has added 20 yards to his drive. Most importantly his balance has improved significantly.

Another client in her 40s is battling colon cancer for the second time. Post surgeries her doctors wanted her to begin high intensity workouts. Since beginning training her numbers are looking great, she’s stronger than before beginning treatment and her doctor believes her workouts have played a crucial roll in keeping the cancer from coming back.

My last example is my father who is 74. We started twice a week training sessions 5 years ago, he was not in good physical condition. Today he pumps out 2 sets of 60 pushups per workout and claims he’s in the best shape of his life. He is able to stay active and injury free during retirement.

Hobbies
Playing hockey, golf and paddle tennis. I have completed 4 Tough Mudders. I'm very into music and going to concerts.
