About Richard Zapata

What I would like to share pertaining to my profile is the following. I have been physical active the majority of my life. Playing baseball for 10 years has made me enjoy the process. Also, understanding delay gratification. My training experience consist of resistance training, conditioning, and mobility/stretching. For example, progressively overloading in movements such as the squat, push-up, and rotation core movements. Moreover, undergoing running drills such as walk/jog/sprints and plyometric and ladder variations. My current aspirations is to guide and empower individuals through movements. Encouraging clients step by step in a progressive manner, where they are challenge just enough to feel stimulus in the connective tissue. Hence, carrying over when performing day to day task.

Training Philosophy
My training philosophy is to stabilize the hips and shoulders. Allowing for segments to rotate freely during the gait cycle. Furthermore, respiration and must be refined when performing any exercise modalities.

Training Professionally Since

Typical Training Session

What a client can expect from me is the following. Firstly, the client would develop optimal breathing cadence, allowing them to gauge their rate perceived exertion. Also, developing core activation due to the intra abdominal pressure supplied by respiration. Secondly, the client can expect more stable hips and shoulder through isometric training pair up with breathing. This allows for muscle recruitment priming up the tissue to prepare for tempo like movements such as pulses. Lastly, focusing heavily on eccentric training because I believe lengthening the tissue prepares the body to handle forces while walking/jogging/running or recreational activities.

Client success story

I work with a 53 year old woman, who had a stroke on the right side of her body and arthroscopy surgery on her left knee. She could not walk a mile without pain, localized in her lateral knee/ patellar tendon. In about 8session she was able to do 5 push ups with a reasonably range of motion. Her waist to hip ratio also decreased. Lastly, she walked pain free and at a faster pace.
